Ran out of memory

I have had several cases where Mindmanager has given me "Ran out of memory!" popups. It seems to be related to either of two very large maps. For the map that is causing it now I closed all other maps and checked the memory consumption in Task Manager; when I first looked (a few minutes after I saw the message) it said 32 MB, but as I watched it continued to climb to 48 MB and is now 64 MB (memory leak?).

So wondering if there is a limit on the size of maps, or if this is a bug that Mindmanager wants to fix.

You‘ll get this error message, if your maps are came from a cloud storage or you still work with an older version.

Please contact the support team if it is different.

I replied to the support team that:

  • The maps didn't come from cloud storage.
  • The version isn't old, it's 23.2.
  • The size of the map is only 21 MB. It has no attachments but many topics.

So this is a request to increase the size of maps that won't cause the Ran out of memory issue to well beyond 21 MB.

FYI, the map has over 5,000 topics. That might be the reason for the issue.

Don't think so.

Maps can have up to 50MB and they are still fast.

We've created much larger maps with 30.000 topics

Please send a ticket to the support

The speed of Mind Manager seems to be a problem. My map has less than 1000 items - and yet Mind Manager is the slowest program in my workplace (where I work with video editing and image databases, among other things). If I copy the contents of a very slow-running map into a completely new file, certain formatting is lost, but the contents, tags, symbols, task information, etc. are retained and: Mind Manager suddenly moves faster! - This behavior is known for Adobe InDesign files: deleted contents (unplaced text, for example) are only removed from the file when you save it under a new name. Saving again apparently does nothing for Mind Manager, but copying into a new file seems to make the file easier to process. - Is there an explanation for this?

Hi Christian,

there where changes in the new file format for MM24 and also in the version 21. If you have maps created with older MindManager version, please update them and check have installed 32 or 64 bit version - see screenshot from the backstage menu.

MindManager gets the formatting from the template. It is saved with the name "Automatic" or "Automatisch" in the German version. If you copy topics to another map, the formatting is read from the used template.

This is the reason why it seem's the formatting is lost.

Hi Andreas, the maps are created by the MM24 – (Version 22.2.366). Is there a way to subsequently check or optimize the format of an existing map (if this could optimize the file structure)? Best regards and thanks!

Hi Christan, if you have the possibility update to version 24.

MM22.2.366 had a bug with formatting, auto align and floating topics.

We are working with the latest version, but the maps were created in the outdated version mentioned above. The problem with the speed of work still exists. I was able to solve it by copying all the main branches into a new file. This is partly suboptimal because certain tags are not copied. I would like to better understand how I could solve this annoying problem for my maps more elegantly.
