MinManager 2020 will not export to MS Word of Office 365

In the past the export to Word worked fine. Suddenly, the export freezes the MinManager application and I have to force-quit MinManager. I tried all sorts of steps, incl. reinstalling MinManager2020 and Office365. However, it did not resolve the issue. Export to all other apps. works fine. I noticed that after I tried the export to Word functionality, the Word app. is running in the background even though it was not opened. And MS Word slows down considerably. I have to run Microsoft 365 quick fix from the Installed apps. menu.
I tried MinManager 2024 and there the export to MS Word works fine.
I have no idea what is the reason for this issue.
Did anyone have this issue? Was it resolved? if yes, how?

Hello Miroslav,

Support for MindManager 2020 has been retired. The only suggestion I have other than the steps you already tried is to ensure both MindManager and Microsoft Word are the same bit version.

MindManager 2024 does not require Word to be installed in order to export as it is now done locally.

Best regards,

-Marian

Thanks Marian,
I checked it and they are both the 64 bit version. The "funny thing" is that the 2024 version cannot export to PowerPoint - the add-in is simply not there. Instead they offer slide decks which is quite annoying.

Hi Miroslav,

I have a number of suggestions:

  • In MindManager, go to Options/Add-Ins and see if the Microsoft Word Import and Export add-in is present and is ticked.
  • Similarly, in Word go to Options/Add-ins and see if the "MindManager Add-in" for V2020 is present and active. This can be somewhat confusing to find if you have installed earlier versions of MM as they are not overwritten when you install a newer version (up to V2020 - as Marian indicated, they rewrote the export to Word process for later versions),, but the earlier versions are called "Mindjet MindManager Add-in". Click on the individual listing to see the full location if you are confused. If this is listed as Inactive then click on Manage COM Add-ins and in the resulting dialogue box re-activate it.
  • You may find that while this works the add-in may deactivate when you turn your computer off. I think this may be a result of installing V2024, so you could try de-installing that if this occurs. Incidentally, if you want to keep and use V2024 there are ways of exporting to PowerPoint via a Word outline, though this is a bit clunky.

Hi Alex,
I tried. But in MS Word (Office 365) the MindManager Add-in in Word is blocked, see picture. IN MinManager 2020 the Word export-import Add-in is on. I tried to unblock this Add-in, but no success.

Hi Miroslav,

I assume the first image is the screenshot of the view and manage Microsoft Add-ins screen, which is listing the MindManager Add-in under Inactive Application add-ins.

You actually have to go one more step which I'm not sure you have done. This is to go to the drop-down menu next to Manage at the bottom of this screen, click on the arrow and select COM Add-ins (or its equivalent) - in the English version this is the default option. Then click Go, and you should see something like the following screen which shows the add-ins available:

3652c70c2dab89c72404374ee31cacc260e5207590c93e49fbf8fd44f8b393f0

Highlight the MindManager Add-in (ignore the Mindjet MindManager Add-ins, if they appear), and tick it, then click OK.

This should enable the add-in. However if you have done this already and it isn't working and you have v2024 still installed you could try uninstalling that, but if could mean that an update to Word has somehow permanently disabled the V2020 add-in. Also, as I noted even if it does work you may find that you have to re-enable the add-in every time you open Word - again, removing the 2024 version may or may not fix this.
