Subbranches inheriting the formatting of parent

Is it possible to format a branch (e.g. setting a background color) and make all the newly created subbranches of that branch inheriting the format?

Changing the map design is not enough, because I want different top branches with different colors and all the subbranches inheriting the color of their top branch.

You could use Topic Belongs to Branch as a trigger in a SmartRule to apply the same colour as an effect to all topics in a specific branch. However, this would not be determined by the colour applied to the parent topic, but rather would be applied directly by the the SmartRule. A separate SmartRule would also have to be created for each topic branch.
