'Spawn' New Map

XMind has the capability to create a new map from a current map. This starts the new map on a separate page, with two-way links that enable you to jump back and forth. Both maps are actually sheets in the same file. I found this to be an incredibly useful function. I would like to see this implemented in MM. Currently I have to generate separate files and manually link them: far less efficient and not helpful if all the 'sheets' are actually related.

I understand your request.

However, adding more sheets in the same map will increase the size and also the time to open and use the map.

There is an easier way to connect / link maps.

You can use the SEND TO option (right click when you are positioned on a topic with subtopics that could be a separate sheet)
It will create a new linked map. You can view them all as linked maps via the VIEW ribbon.

Many thanks. I can see this works in some instances. However, it doesn't work for most of the topics I have on my Concept Map. I can make it work by changing the topic type.

Aha.
Topics in a concept map are floating topics.
Concept maps are a different story.

But i am curious, How do you select a complete concept structure to place in a new sheet?

Could you get this done with the FLIPCHART option that you have for free as a MindManager starter app? vs 24

Please could you describe how you use this?

Hi Nick, are you asking how we would use FLIPCHART or how I would use the functionality I first asked about? I don't know FLIPCHART, so cannot answer that. Ary's comment about using 'send to' has worked for me (once I change the topic style to one that supports that function. I can then dump high level ideas in one map, then spawn other maps exploring headlines easily and I can open all connected maps easily. I find this very useful when developing a plan or concept with multiple levels of detail.

No, not the Flipchart. I was interested in the process. Hopefully the Send To function will do what you need. You can start developing a tree before sending it to a new map. I also find it useful to keep a "car park" parent topic in a map for new ideas or fragments of information that have not been reviewed and integrated.
