Boundaries not grouping multiple topics

The boundary function isn't working. I select a root topic or multiple topics and the boundaries form individually around the sub topics.

Is this a mind map or a flow chart?

It wasn't created from a flowchart template. It uses topics rather than flowchart symbols. I'm describing it as a mind map and it is a .mmap file.
Does that help?

Can you send me the mind map? I would like to try it out. I have an idea of what it could be.

Can I email it to you?

I could be wrong but the "subtopics" look like floating topics connected with relationships. Boundaries only work with subtopics that can be expanded and collapsed.

Am I doing this wrong?

You are using floating topics.

I think that dragging the "+" away from a selected floating topic creates a new relationship and floating topic.

To create a subtopic that can be included within it's parent topic boundary, use Insert > Map Topic > Add Subtopic. The menu should also show the keyboard shortcut, which is "Insert" on Windows but I don't know what it is for Mac.

Thanks Nick and Rene,
You're both correct. I'll need to think of another way to achieve the grouping.

If floating topics could encompassed by a boundary in a future update this would be a great feature.

Background shapes can be used to visually group floating topics and can be a "topic container", meaning the topics get moved with the background shape if it is moved.
