[Feature Request] Freeplane import/export
Voting Open
Please consider replacing Freemind import with Freeplane import.
Freemind is for all intents and purposes a dead and abandonded project. The latest sign of life was more than 8 years ago.
Freeplane which is both the defacto and spritual continuation has evolved quite a bit since 2016.
Since there's a shared history, very simple maps can be imported into MindManager but more recent ones are a no go or at best a bit of a hit or miss.
So I would humbly request and suggest that the import functionality for *.mm files should focus on importing from current Freeplane. If that works Freemind maps could still be imported w.o. issues.
afair,
there already is import from freelane,
however, mm will mostly only allow import and NOT export.
this is to SUCK ppl into mm world and not let ppl move AWAY.
a good thinking, a good business plan.

This is what it looks like in MM 24:
Highlights are obviously mine but as far as I can see there's no Freeplane in sight, only FreeMind.
The file formats started to deviate, well if memory serves me right, almost ten years ago, and as features have been added to FreePlane the gap has widened over time.
While some older Freeplane mindmaps sort of imports like so so, the importer chokes on mindmaps created by recent Freeplane versions. If the mindmaps utilises one or more Freeplane's"advanced" features, it is a disappointing no go, usually accompanied by this:
So, I would say that there is a clear and present need for a shift to a FreePlane importer replacing the one for FreeMind.
And, yes I would also like to see added the ability to export to FreePlane!
