Import DOCX, generate links from notes to map branches
Discussion Open
Hello,
I would like to import a DOCX into MindManager - and generate a mindmap.
While all other features are working, I am unable to generate hyperlinks to branches from the inside of text notes.
Where can I find documentation about how to prepare my DOCX file? Which parameters are relevant within the PRIVATE field of a DOCX?
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
I'm a little confused by your question, but I assume that you're trying to import a Word document which has internal hyperlinks from one part of the document to another part which you want to replicate in the topic notes.
Like you I haven't been able to find a way to do this, but in theory it should be possible. We know this because if you create a MindManager map with links in the topic notes to other topics and export it to Word (using the Map Style template rather than a custom Word template) the links will work - and here's the interesting part, these links will still work when the document is re-imported into MindManager.
It's instructive to view the hyperlink in the Word document created by the MAP export process by clicking on Edit Hyperlink in the resulting Word document. It would appear that MindManager bookmarks the target location in the export document. The strange thing (at least based on a limited sample) is that it also creates bookmarks for all the other paragraphs in the Word document, even if no other hyperlinks were created in MindManager. Each link comprises a series of around 20 random characters and symbols.
I don't really understand why MindManager does this, but more importantly I don't seem to be able to find a way to replicate this by creating such a link from scratch in the Word document which is retained on import to MindManager, even if I set up a bookmark. Perhaps someone else can throw some light on this.
