Excel Importer properties as a number

I would like to import a column from Excel in number format (not text). The columns are formatted as numbers in Excel.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Alternatively: I have tried to change the text formatted property of all elements to number at once. That did not work.

Hi Peter,
When you set up the import and designate the column with the numbers as a property, click on the little cog icon next to the column name. A dialogue box should then appear with options to choose the property type, including number, from a drop-down list. This should then be applied to all the imported properties.

In addition to Peter's reply. Don't forget to switch on the advanced options at the bottom of the import excel mapping. Again via a little cog during the import fase.
