Arrange topics in an unstructured format?

I cannot figure out how to do this. I want to drag subtopics anywhere on the page organically. I don't want them structured in linear or grid-like fashion. Thank you.

There is a little dot between the main topic and the first level topics. You can click and hold that to move it around. However. It will only work for first level topics.

In the templates look for free form

There you can place your (floating) topics anywhere and link them with relationships if needed.

I see that's a work-around. I'm hoping for an authentic connection between the topics just as a "normal" map - with expand/collapse, etc. Thank you.
