Incorrect icon display for link to PDF file - how to fix? (MM18)

Some time back, I had a little tool installed that took over handling of PDF files, so Adobe Acrobat Reader was no longer involved. After uninstallation of that tool, Acrobat is back in charge at the OS level. However, MM 18 doesn't show the proper icon anymore, for links to PDF files. Instead, it just shows a symbol for a blank document page:
What steps are needed to fix this?

Try to repair the installation of MindManager 2018 through the Windows Control Panel. If that does not resolve the issue, uninstall and reinstall the application.
