Select the central topic in the map (assuming you want the whole map to be numbered). Under the Insert tab on the ribbon click on the drop-down menu arrow under Numbering in the Topic Elements section, then select Numbering Options. Here you can choose the style of numbering to apply (the options available include the format you want) and how many levels you want to be numbered.
