Only able to create subtopics in one direction

I am only able to expand to the right, not up, down or left. As in when I click on a topic there is only the little plus to the right. How can I fix this, is it a setting I can change?
Hi Josh,
Make sure you choose "Map" layout, you won't see a plus on the left side but it will auto balance the topics on either side.
If you want up and down, choose "Split Org-chart"
