How to open .bak files?

MindManager has the option to creat a .bak file before saving a mindmap, to be able to revert to a version before saving. But there seems to be no way to open these files. This page (https://onlinehelp.mindjet.com/mm72/Help/ENU/Pro/options_save.htm) suggests using the Open dialog, but I get an error message when trying this (and so do my colleagues). This happens on every .bak file. The error number is 0xC00CEE2D. Double clicking a .bak file and opening it with MindManager results in the same error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I think you need to remove the ".bak" extension from the file before opening. You may need to change the filename too if it clashes with the current version.
