If you are located in Europe, it is default to have € .
Maybe check your settings via File> Options??

I have a German Windows, MindManager is set to "German", menus are in German. However, if I create a new, say, radial map, go to the root node, open Task Info, open Task Options, then the currency symbol is still "$" by default. Is there an option that I am missing?

Hi, the currency is picked up from the OS regional settings as default. You have the option to change the default in the task pane for each map as well.
