[Concept] Decentralized Bi-Linking for MindManager: The ".cof" Architecture

The Vision MindManager maps are often isolated islands. I’m proposing a system to bring Obsidian-style bi-directional linking to MM, even when thousands of .mmap files are scattered across different network locations (UNC paths).

The "Virtual Vault" Logic Instead of one massive, fragile database, this system uses a decentralized "Circle of Friends" (.cof) architecture:

  • Immutable Anchors: Links are based on native Topic GUIDs, not text. If you rename a topic, the link stays alive.
  • Sidecar Files (.mmap.cof): Every map gets a tiny companion text file listing its "Friends" (meaningfully linked maps). No global scanning of 1000+ files is required; the system only queries the whitelist.
  • The Bi-directional Handshake: When Map A links to Map B, both .cof files are updated. They "mutually follow" each other.
  • Adjustable Traversal Depth: Just like Obsidian’s local graph, you can adjust the query depth.
Depth 1: Direct links.Depth 2: "Friends of Friends"—revealing hidden cross-disciplinary connections across your entire NAS.

Why This? It’s fast, private, and portable. Your data stays in your maps and sidecars, not a proprietary database. It turns MindManager into a high-performance, visual Networked Thought tool.

Next Steps I’ll be "vibe coding" a prototype macro/add-on for this soon.

It's always a pain to see ppl working for obsn and nothing is added to mm.
