Beyond Mind Maps: Creation through Drawing in Concept Maps

Imagine a world where your software adapts to your thought process, not the other way around. Why? Because every action that requires us to think about something other than our current focus disrupts our concentration.

Some suggestions:

Integrate content creation through drawing:

  • Relationships: Draw lines to connect nodes. The software will automatically connect them if you start and end near nodes.
  • Shapes: Draw shapes directly on the canvas. If the starting and ending points aren't near nodes, the software will understand you intend a shape, not a relationship. Alternatively, allow users to create nodes instead of shapes based on preference settings or a keyboard shortcut.
  • Deletion: Briefly trace over an existing line or shape to delete it, similar to "cutting a rope."

Line Shape and Quality:

The software would understand if we need curved, straight, or even segmented lines, depending on how you draw. It would simply clean up and refine the details, so that we can draw imperfect lines and still get good results.

Direct vs. Indirect Drawing:

  • Direct Mode: Draw freely on the canvas at any time.
  • Indirect Mode: Hold the CTRL key to enter a dedicated drawing mode.
