how to only copy a parent topic without copying the subtopics? thx

Answered

hi, this Q must be asked but I didn't found answers.

i got a parent topic of A,

then subtopics 1, 2, 3.

no matter A is expanded or collapsed,

if I ctrl+c on A,

any paste is with subtopics 1, 2, 3 attached which is not what i want.

previous post claims this is reasonable, but howcome I can't only copy those I SELECTED?

thanks

ps: i am on win10, 64bit, mm2020

Hi Nick,

You are correct, ofcourse.

But since Charles C had a limited question, It may be suffcient to follow the option I found.

If your goal is what you state...

Than try ctrl-Alt-C

It copies the topic and creates a link to that topic

SO if you paste somewhere it also has a direct link

I found this under Help => Keyboard shortcuts in Windows version

Hello Ary. As far as I can see, this does create a single topic with the same text, but does not copy any of the other content such as the topic colours, icons, notes, properties and so on.

hi,

this is a good answer!

originally i just want to have the "topic text" and copy it somewhere,

now the ctrl-alt-c includes a link to the original topic.

that's even better.

thank you.

indeep could write a macro for this. it's really strange that i cant just copy a single topic without the subtopics.

I would love to have a capability like this - it's so so so annoying that the entire tree gets copied.

What I really want, though, is to be able to select and copy only parts of a tree - a parent node and selected ancestors.

hi,

i just made a macro, that will make a subling of your selected topic, copy the topic text and note text to the new siblings. (cant copy hyperlink yet, the api is not clear).

then one can cut the new siblings.

result similiar to copy only the selected topic and omitted the subtopics.

may be share later.
